Maurizio Arrivabene: “Overall I can’t be happy with this weekend: on an all-dry race, the result would have been much different. I feel happy because once again Seb made the perfect call to come into the pits, and then drove superbly to open the gap to the Williams cars. Also, I am pleased with a very good race strategy. We need to stay humble and not brag ourselves, because today third place came courtesy of a great drive by Seb and a great strategy-but we also need a great car. The strategy guys do a wonderful job, but when it rains, it’s the driver who has the final call to the pits. In the case of Kimi, whose strategy was identical to Seb’s, he thought it better to come in. If it had rained harder, maybe he could have won the race. But we must be honest and acknowledge that Williams was stronger than us today”.

Kimi Raikkonen: “In the early part of the race we were stuck behind Hulkenberg’s Force India, they were too fast on the straight and in the places you could pass, while we lacked some speed. It’s a pity because the handling of the car was good through the whole race and the behavior was definitely better than yesterday. When it started raining heavily, the track became very slippery, especially in Turns 7 and 8; so I took the decision to come in the pits for Intermediate, but then the rain stopped. Probably I made the call three or four laps too early. But in general, this kind of track is not ideal for us, and this is something we have to work on.”

Sebastian Vettel: “I had a really bad start, I nearly didn’t get off the line and lost positions. At the restart I made up a position, but I lost two as a consequence. It didn’t seem to come together at this point, a bit like the whole weekend for us, but then we were able to turn it around. We recovered through strategy, mostly by being very aggressive. I was in touch with the team all the time, it was not easy to take the right decision with the weather. But we did a great call to pit just in the perfect lap, made up a lot of ground and finished on the podium. I’m sorry for the people that got wet, but the rain helped us today! It was in the end a podium finish that we deserved, as we made the right call at the right time. Williams did a small step forward, for us I think we just didn’t find the rhythm at this weekend. There is plenty of things we have to learn and understand quickly. We are not in favour of these hard tyres, but it is the same for everyone, so no excuses allowed. If you look at the gap to the first two cars, it was bigger than normal, so it is up to us to come back for Hungary.”

British GP – Vettel fights his way to the podium, Raikkonen eighth

In tricky conditions, Seb claims a well deserved third place

Silverstone, 5 July – The British Grand Prix started under summer skies, but eventually delivered a typical English day, with rain arriving unexpectedly for the final third of the race. When the rain came, Raikkonen had been lying fifth and switched to Intermediate tyres on lap 38, while Vettel came in four laps later. It was enough to make the difference when it came to tyre management, given that the rain intensified just as Sebastian made his stop. Thanks to a great strategy, Vettel managed to jump the two cars ahead to go from sixth to third place, thus returning to the podium after a two race absence. Raikkonen was forced to make a further stop because his tyres were degrading and he ended up eighth. The race was won by Lewis Hamilton for Mercedes.

Kimi Raikkonen: “It was not an easy qualifying, with the strong wind the handling was not ideal and it was very tricky for everybody, because the conditions kept changing from run to run and from corner to corner. We know that when is windy it’s not very easy for us, we improved our car on that side but here it was still difficult to get the lap right, putting all the sectors together. Obviously we can’t be happy for fifth and sixth position, it’s a bit disappointing, but we tried our best and hopefully tomorrow we’ll do better. I don’t think we’re slipping back, it’s just the different conditions we had today. In the race we’ll see what is going to happen, we’ll push to gain some positions”.

Sebastian Vettel: “It was more difficult than we expected so we’ll have to have a look at that, but clearly it’s not ‘clean’ from my side. I struggled a bit to find the right balance. Tomorrow could be a different story, because our race pace should be fine. Today was not the best day. Hopefully tomorrow will be an exciting race, we can do plenty of things, we have the pace. I know that is difficult to pass, especially the Williams as they have a good straightline speed, but we’ll see. Maybe we can find something for tomorrow. For sure it’s not the best starting position. In Q3 we were not happy with either run. The out lap was not great, I nearly crashed with Felipe in last attempt, I think there was a bit of confusion because Nico was going so slow…nobody to blame though. In the end I made a mistake in the final lap, but in general, we were not quick enough.”

Fifth and sixth places for Ferrari in qualifying at Silverstone

Silverstone, 4 July – A large crowd was treated to a very exciting qualifying session for the British Grand Prix this Saturday afternoon. In front of around 100,000 spectators, the Scuderia ended up with Kimi Raikkonen fifth in 1.33.379 and sixth with Sebastian Vettel, who did a 1.33.547. On their last set of Medium tyres, neither Ferrari man managed to improve on the times posted on their first set of new tyres, but it was enough to lock down the third row of the grid for tomorrow’s race. Pole went to Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes with a 1.32.248.

Raikkonen and Vettel third and fourth in final free practice

Silverstone, 4 July –The Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel followed home the Mercedes duo in qualifying simulation runs at Silverstone circuit this morning. Temperatures had dropped to more usual levels for this time of year, thanks to the rain that fell overnight and a strong wind which affected the final hour of free practice. Kimi did a 1.33.692, beaten only by Lewis Hamilton (1.32.917) and Nico Rosberg (1.33.469.) In the other SF15-T, Sebastian Vettel was fourth with a 1.33.918.

Kimi Raikkonen: “Today we tried to do the maximum in the practice and it looks good, but it’s only Friday. It was not an easy day, anyway we learned something. We still have to improve and try to make it a bit more straightforward. We have no idea what the others were doing in the long run, we were focused on our session. The medium compound seems to be pretty ok, while the hard one is more difficult. For some reason I struggled a bit with that, but I don’t know if it was down to that set in particular or if the compound itself is more tricky here.”

Sebastian Vettel: “We didn’t have any issues with the car and, more or less, we got through everything we wanted to do. Still I’m not entirely happy with the car yet. Some of the things we tried  were good and others were not so good. Now we have to make sure to have only the best things in the  car tomorrow. Then I hope we can do a step forward. This track is a lot about finding the rhythm. About the tyres, I can say that it is only Friday, and not everybody was able to get everything out of both compounds. Anything can happen tomorrow and our main opponents will certainly be very strong, but if we can confirm today’s result, that would be good”

Raikkonen and Vettel finish second and third in FP2

Silverstone, 3 July – The Ferrari duo of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel were front runners this Friday at Silverstone, come the end of the first two free practice sessions, which marked the start of the ninth round of the Formula 1 World Championship. Raikkonen was third this afternoon with a 1.34.502 on his qualifying simulation using the Medium tyres, just ahead of Vettel who did a 1.34.522, both men running the softer of the two compounds brought to England by Pirelli. Having been quickest this morning, Nico Rosberg was again fastest for Mercedes with a 1.34.155.

Vettel confident but still a lot to do

“Our target at the beginning of the season was to close the gap to the Mercedes, and try to win a couple of races. We succeded already in most of the things, we are here to win but we know that it is  very difficult to challenge them in the shape they are now. We need to become quicker and stronger in  all areas, and to do that, we have to work very hard. Unfortunately, things don’t happen overnight,
then we need some time. The test we had last week was difficult due to the weather conditions.

We would have loved to have more consistent running in the same conditions, but everybody lost a bit of  time and couldn’t finish the programme. Anyway a lot of stuff was done and it was important for the engine to keep running and do some mileage. We are pretty happy with what we could get out of the  test. I hope I can have a fight with Mercedes on track, because this would mean we are doing very  well. It would be nice, but as I said in the beginning we have to keep our feet on the ground.

We know the gap is still there, but we’ll try our best to have a clean weekend. Tire combination will be interesting here, I think that’s one thing we have to look out for. We have to work and be focused on ourselves, every race we’ll try to do more steps”.

British GP – “We have the tools to improve”

Kimi sees the way up despite difficulties

“So far, the season has not been ideal and we haven’t got the results we expected, but the most important thing now for me is to try and have good races. Compared to last year, it hasn’t been a disaster, we are in the fourth place in the Championship and second as a team and we have all the tools to do better.

After a bad race in Austria we hope to have a good weekend here: I like this place, there’s a lot of tradition in motor racing. Maybe I enjoyed more the original layout, it was more flowing, similar to Monza or Spa, but it is always a nice place to come to. Now it’s too early to say what will happen, so far we have been more or less the same in every track, so I don’t expect here to be anything less than that. Here it’s often quite windy and this can make it tricky for everybody. We have the speed and all the tools to avoid mistakes. If we got rid of all the small issues, we could have good results.”

British Grand Prix – Gutierrez: “It’s even more fun in the rain”

A unique combination of corners

Maranello, 1 July – For Esteban Gutierrez, Scuderia Ferrari’s third driver, England’s Silverstone circuit is on his list of favourites. “It’s one of the tracks I like best, because it features a unique combination of corners. Becketts for example has been the inspiration for many sections at various other circuits. It’s also my favourite part of the circuit: you arrive at the corner after Copse, accelerating flat out and there is no room for error. “I’ve got fond memories of this track, as I had good results in all the categories in which I raced here. It’s true the weather can be tricky, but in my opinion, if it rains it makes driving here even more fun. Managing tyre temperatures is one of the most difficult aspects, because the weather can change unexpectedly and it’s not easy to keep them consistent. The first world championship began in England, so of course there are a lot of fans here. They arrive well prepared and they are very loyal to the teams they support and it’s an amazing sight to see all the camp sites around the circuit. I myself usually sleep in a camper van at Silverstone, because there’s a very special atmosphere and I reckon that’s the best way to experience it.”

British Grand Prix – Working through the summer

A mix of humility and determination

Maranello, 30 June – As we come up to the British Grand Prix, Alberto Antonini, head of the Motor Sport Press Office, looks ahead to the weekend at the English track and addresses the topic of possible changes within the Scuderia driver line-up, one of the most traditional of summer rumours. “This isn’t an easy Grand Prix, not that any of them is easy, but our aim is tackle it with the right mix of humility and determination. We need to work calmly and those who love this team are well aware what we mean by that. It’s a home race for most of our competitors, it’s a demanding track but we will knuckle down and do all in our power to achieve what is possible and even what is impossible to bring home the result we deserve. We are totally aware that this will be a demanding summer, with tricky races presenting us with all sorts of different demands. We continue to work on bringing developments to each race, because we aim to close the gap which currently separates us from our competitors, keeping in mind the fact that, at the last two races, our actual results on track did not live up to our potential. As for all the rumours doing the rounds, it’s nice to have something to read on the beach and it’s been the norm at this point in the season to talk about a bit of everything, but the truth of the matter within the team couldn’t be more straightforward. There are two seats and at the moment, they are both taken. We are sure many a driver would love to drive for Ferrari, but at the moment, the situation is clear: we have two nominated race drivers.”

Ferrari Racing Days Budapest – Vettel lights up the Hungaroring

Posted: 28.06.2015
Source: Ferrari

Budapest, 28 June – This year, Sebastian Vettel won’t be able to enjoy the affection of the German fans who would have given him a great welcome at the German Grand Prix, but today, he certainly enjoyed a warm reception from the Hungarian ones, who will get a chance to cheer him on in around a month’s time. This afternoon, the Scuderia Ferrari driver thrilled a crowd of over 15,000 who flocked to the Hungaroring for the Ferrari Racing Days event.

What a show. Seb was without a doubt the star attraction on the final day of the event organised by Corse Clienti in Budapest. The four times world champion went into action just before lunch, giving a few lucky Shell guests rides around the track in an F12berlinetta. Shell, a long time partner of the Scuderia was also sponsor of this edition of the Ferrari Racing Days. Then, after a photocall with the Ferrari Challenge Europe drivers and those from the XX and Formula 1 Clienti Programmes, he got behind the wheel of the very same F2012 that he drove on his first appearance as a Scuderia driver last year at Fiorano. Today he did a few quick laps, some pit stop simulations and the obligatory donuts, for which he is rightly famous, almost as much as for his many wins.

Feel the love. At the end of the demonstration run, Vettel got a rapturous reception from the crowd and in response, he jumped the barriers and went to meet the welcoming throng under the grandstands. “This, my first experience as a Ferrari driver outside of the Grands Prix has been amazing,” said Seb. “I felt great affection from all the fans here as they surrounded me and I am happy to have entertained them with an adrenalin-packed show.”

FXX K. Besides Vettel, and also on the last day of the event, the Ferrari FXX K attracted the eyes, ears and hearts of fans; it’s the latest car of the XX Programmes, which ran in the hands of its owners for the first time in Budapest. The extraordinary 1,050 horse power, 860 of which come from the V12 combustion engine with 190 supplied by the hybrid system that originates from Formula 1, the sound of its engine and the spectacular lines have made it the undisputed queen of this edition of the Ferrari Racing Days.

Immortal charm. In terms of sound, however, even the Formula 1 Clienti have had their say, with very special drivers that have been able to drive them and have fun revving up the normally aspirated V8 and V10 engines, power plants who have written some unforgettable pages on the history of the category. Helping them enjoy the most of the singleseater cars was Davide Rigon, a very special tutor for customers who were equally special. In the paddock, the entire range of Ferraris attracted the attention of spectators, but, in particular, many wanted to take a picture of the 488 GTB, the new V8 turbo engined sportcar presented in Geneva this past spring.

Challenge. Even today, the only thing that gives that special charm that only competitions can give is the Challenge. In the Ferrari Challenge Europe, we have witnessed an encore of Saturdays, with victories for Bjorn Grossmann and Martin Nelson, who took the lead in the Trofeo Pirelli and Pirelli Am championships. In the Coppa Shell, the victory went to the Czech driver Vladimir Hladik, while in head the Belgian Jacques Duyver came in first place at the Championship.

Ferrari Challenge Europe – Double for Grossmann and Nelson as Hladik shines in Budapest

Budapest, June 28 – Second day full of spectacle and emotions in Budapest for the third round of the Ferrari Challenge Europe, which offered the usual entertainment for the fifteen thousand people who came to the Hungaroring, despite the threat of rain.

Trofeo Pirelli. The Trofeo Pirelli class has offered a Race-2 of the highest level: at the start, the poleman Bjorn Grossmann (Octane 126) managed to hold the first position after a good, wheel-to-wheel battle with Babalus (Autoropa), who was forced at the first turn to give way to the Belgian Florian Merckx (Baron Service), who had just received Sebastian Vettel’s autograph on his helmet, the guest of honor of the Ferrari Racing Days in Budapest. Grossmann quickly gained the advantage, proving himself unbeatable on the track at the Hungaroring. On the other hand, behind him began a battle between Merckx and Babalus, which lasted a few laps, before the championship leader ran into a problem that caused him to lose several positions. The victory went to Grossmann, ahead of Merckx, and to the Russian Victor Shaytar (AF Corse), recent winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours. With this achievement, Grossmann takes first place in the championship standings.

Pirelli Am. At the Pirelli Am, Alexis De Bernardi (Kessel Racing) started in pole position but was almost immediately passed by Sweden’s Martin Nelson (Autoropa), who thus repeated the victory of Race-1, like Grossmann in the Trofeo Pirelli Pro. Still, Kessel Racing’s driver from Luxembourg was very good at defending second position from attacks by Foitek Racing’s Swiss driver, Nicolas Stürzinger, who starred in Race-1 and was capable of a very aggressive race today. Less lustrous was the race of Alessandro Vezzoni (Rossocorsa-Pellin Racing) who was overtook by Nelson now leading the championship.

Coppa Shell. Even more excitement was in store in the Coppa Shell. First and foremost, about the weather conditions: sure enough, it started to rain just as the cars came out of the garage and were about to take off, and so almost all the drivers opted to fit rain tires. Immediately after the start, the rain subsided and so Thomas Loefflad (StileF Squadra Corse), holder of pole position, opted to change tires. In the lead was Vladimir Hladik (Scuderia Praha), who took off with slicks. The pace of the German driver, from the back of the group, and the track continuing to improve gradually, led the drivers to change tires. Vladimir Hladik succeeded in crossing the finish line first, ahead of Tommy Lindroth (Baron Service), who in turn took off with slicks, and Loefflad. Fourth place was for Gautham Singhania. The Coppa Gentlemen victory went to Fons Scheltema (Kessel Racing), ahead of Holger Lange (Foitek Racing) and Kriton Lendounis (AF Corse). The next event takes place in a month at the Ferrari Racing Days at Circuit Paul Ricard.

Ferrari Racing Days Budapest – The FXX K stars at Hungaroring

Posted: 27.06.2015
Source: Ferrari

Budapest, 27 June – The Ferrari Racing Days are underway in Budapest with the first day of competition. Thousands of spectators flocked to the Hungaroring on Saturday to watch exciting duels in the Ferrari Challenge Europe and to see the range of road cars and Formula 1 Clienti. However, the star of the day was the FXX K, the latest car from the XX Programmes, which customers were able to try out on track for the first time.

Star of the show. The FXX K literally enchanted the crowd, the thousands of people in the stands, as well as the guests in the paddock, many of who were guests of Shell. Ferrari’s long-term partner also brought its tracklab to Budapest, showing off its high precision research laboratory. Shell’s tracklab is present at all Formula 1 Grand Prix, giving constant assistance to Scuderia Ferrari. The FXX K, with 1050 horsepower, 860 from the V12 combustion engine and 190 from the hybrid system derived from Formula 1, was put through its paces in two 40-minute sessions, amazing everyone with its performance as well as its beauty and technology. This totally uncompromising car, available only to a limited group of Ferrari Clients who are also track testers for Maranello, will appear in two more sessions on the track tomorrow.

F1 Clients. If the FXX K was the big attraction as the greatest novelty of the event, the fans in the stands certainly weren’t indifferent to the charms of the Formula 1 Clienti, cars that have made the history of the class and that are roaring again thanks to the very special customers who have had the chance to buy them from Ferrari. The public, but also the fans in the paddock, really enjoyed rediscovering the sound of the aspirated 056 engine, as well as that of the 10-cylinder engine, which on cars like the F2002 and F2004 marked some memorable years in the history of the Scuderia. Scuderia Ferrari and AF Corse World Endurance Championship (WEC) driver Davide Rigon is in Budapest to advise these special clients and help them extract the maximum performance and driving pleasure from the cars.

First love. Two F2012s are in the garage with the Clienti single-seaters. On Sunday the car and spare car will take centre stage in an exhibition by Sebastian Vettel in his first performance with Scuderia Ferrari. The car is the one that the German drove at Fiorano just after signing his contract with the Formula 1 team. So Sebastian gets to meet it again. Shortly after 1pm Vettel will present fans with 20 minutes of high-adrenaline driving, thrilling acceleration, fast laps, pit stops tests and, of course, with the traditional donuts, the almost unique trademark of the four-time world champion.

Range and Challenge. Visitors to the paddock were drawn to the Ferraris from every era, which went on track as part of the Passione Ferrari initiative. Then of course all the cars in the current range were proudly displayed outside the Corse Clienti hospitality area, including the 488 GTB, the brand new V8 sportcar with the first Ferrari turbo engine since the F40 at the end of the ‘80s. The drivers also raced at the Hungaroring on Saturday in the Ferrari Challenge Europe at the wheel of the superfast 458 Challenge EVO. Bjorn Grossmann (Octane 126) won the Pirelli Trophy on Saturday, while Martin
Nelson (Autoropa) took the Pirelli AM and Jacques Duyver (Kessel Racing) the Coppa Shell. It will be the same again on Sunday with two exciting races.

Ferrari Challenge Europe – Grossmann, Nelson and Duyver win Race-1 at Budapest

Source: Ferrari

Budapest, June 27 – The first day of competition at the Ferrari Racing Days in Budapest kicked off on Saturday with Race-1 of the Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell, which fulfilled expectations with some spectacular racing, thrilling overtaking and breathtaking duels.

Trofeo Pirelli. Race-1 in the Trofeo Pirelli lacked nothing for excitement. At the start poleman Bjorn Grossmann (Octane 126) held onto first ahead of the recent winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours, Victor Shaytar, who was then overtaken by a sharp David Gostner. On lap 3 the Russian AF Corse team driver regained second place, leaving the Italian Ineco-MP Racing driver to fend off attacks from Florian Merckx and championship leader Babalus (Autoropa). On the following lap the Belgian Baron Service driver attacked Gostner but overshot allowing Babalus to overtake him and move past Gostner into third. A little later Merckx regained fourth place. Grossmann crossed the finish line first, having also notched up the fastest lap, putting him just four points behind Babalus, today third in the race behind Shaytar.

Pirelli Am. Nicolas Stürzinger of Foitek Racing was determined to put on a show in the Pirelli AM class. Starting badly from second place on the grid, on the second lap the Swiss overtook Alessandro Vezzoni (Rossocorsa Pellin-Racing) to move into third in pursuit of Tommaso Rocca (Rossocorsa) and poleman Martin Nelson. On lap 4 Rocca also had to give way to Stürzinger. At that point the Swiss began his duel with Nelson, who used his experience to force the young Foitek driver into a mistake on turn 8. Nicolas resumed behind Rocca but managed to hold onto third position despite pressure from Lubomir Jakubik (Praha-RFD Racing). This success brought Nelson up to 74 points in the championship table, just seven behind Vezzoni. Andreas Segler stays third.

Coppa Shell. The Coppa Shell also brought loads of thrills and excitement. Indeed, Roberto Cava and Murat Ruhi Cuhadaroglu collided on the first turn, leaving the Turk stuck in the middle of the track and forced to retire. At the front Jacques Duyver stayed in first ahead of Gautham Singhania and Erich Prinoth, who did superbly to pinch third place from Fons Scheltema. However, the Italian Ineco-MP Racing driver was out of the running after a few laps, with Kessel Racing regaining the three podium places. For a few laps Singhania battled to overtake Duyver, but the Belgian put in a superb performance towards the finish, lengthening his lead to secure his third win of the season. Besides third place Scheltema also won the Gentlemen’s Cup for the over 55s, with Thomas Gostner (Ineco-MP Racing) in second and Erich Cheung (AF Corse) third. Duyver has thus stretched his championship lead, while Thomas Loefflad (StileF Corse) is now in second place. It will be the same again on Sunday with Race-2 of Trofeo Pirelli at 2.30pm and Race-2 of Coppa Shell at 4.30pm.

Ferrari Racing Days – A Le Mans winner competes in the Challenge

Posted: 26.06.2015
Source: Ferrari

Budapest, 26 June – Two weeks ago he achieved one of the goals most sought by all drivers: a win in the Le Mans 24 Hours. This weekend, he will be one of the central actors of the Ferrari Challenge Europe. We are talking about Victor Shaytar, the Russian driver who captured first place in the most important endurance race in the world, together with his compatriot Aleksey Basov (who, a few years ago, also played a central role in the Ferrari Challenge Europe) and with Ferrari’s official driver, Andrea Bertolini.

Duplicate car. The Russian will be at the controls of a car of the AF Corse team, which, however, will be painted in exactly the same colours as the 458 Italia of the SMP Racing team, for which he competes in the World Endurance Championship. Victor will compete in the highest category: the Trofeo Pirelli.

Day 3 – Incredible driving on and off the track

The group of 100 Ferraristas left Rome during a sleepy Sunday morning, the roar of the engines accompanied by the sound of ringing church bells. First destination, the charming medieval hamlet of Ronciglione, followed by a visit to picturesque Viterbo, known for having one of the most beautiful and well preserved city centres of Italy. For lunch the group headed to ancient Orvieto, where the Ferraris lined up in front of the majestic Gothic Duomo. But the leisurely pace of the morning was soon a distant memory. The Cavalcade went to the historic racetrack of Vallelunga Racetrack, located 30 km north of Rome, where each participant experienced the adrenaline rush of lapping full speed around the FIA approved track.

Andrea Bertolini introduces the Ferrari FXX K

Maranello, 24 June – Fresh Le Mans 24 Hours winner on the Ferrari 458 Italia of SMP Racing Andrea Bertolini introduces the Ferrari FXX K, the latest XX Programmes car that will debut in Budapest in the hands of its special clients-tester. As we know the letter K is for “KERS” kinetic energy recovery technology, which maximises on track performance. Unfettered by homologation and racing regulations, the FXX K will never be used in competition. It was, in fact, developed to be completely uncompromising, incorporating technological innovations that will guarantee an unprecedented driving experience to the exclusive group of Client-Test Drivers with whom the Prancing Horse will roll out a test programme over the coming two years.

Extreme performance. The car has a huge potential that can be summarised in a few but significant figures: 1050 total horse power, 860 of which comes from the V12 thermal engine and 190 from the electric motor with over 900 Nm of maximum torque. The HY-KERS system has been evolved specifically for pure performance with the result that the driver can control the function logics from the specific 4-setting Manettino on the centre console: Qualify, for maximum performance within a limited number of laps; Long Run to optimise performance consistency; Manual Boost for instant maximum torque delivery; and Fast Charge, for a fast recharge of the car’s battery.

Refined aerodynamics. A focus on delivering maximum efficiency at every stage of every track lap has resulted in extensive but integrated work on the entire car body in terms of both active and passive aerodynamics. The result is a 50% improvement in downforce in the low drag configuration and a 30% improvement in the more aggressive downforce configuration, resulting in a figure of 540 kg at 200 km/h.

Goodwood Festival of Speed – History meets speed

Derek Bell in his 1970 Ferrari 512. XX Programmes entertain the crowds

Goodwood, 28 June – On the 17th May 1970, Derek Bell drove his first Sports Car in an endurance race at the Spa 1000 Km. The car was a Ferrari 512 S, one of only 25 cars built to contest the Manufacturers’ World Championship in 1970 and 1971. The car was entered by Ecurie Francorchaps and Derek shared it with Belgian driver Hughes de Fierlant. With an all-alloy 5.0 litre V12 engine, generating 550hp, the 512 S had a top speed of over 212mph. Designed by Giacomo Calari as both a berlinetta and a spider, the car had a tubular spaceframe chassis with polycarbonate bodywork for a total weight of only 840kg.

Derek Bell started the Spa 1000 Km in 7th place, and finished 8th overall. He also then drove the 512 S at Le Mans, but this time it was a works entry with Ronnie Peterson as teammate, and again at the 9hrs of Kyalami in November again with the Ecurie Francorchamps. During the Spa 1000 Km, the car wore race number 23, which it wore again during the Festival of Speed when Derek drove the car in a special class dedicated to celebrating the career of one of the greatest Endurance Racers of all time. The car is currently held in a private collection and is not normally campaigned. However, as part of the Derek Bell Celebration at the 2015 Festival of Speed, the owner wanted to ensure that Derek had the chance to be reunited with the car that launched his career in Sports Cars.

The Festival of Speed was also the perfect showcase for Ferrari’s XX Programmes cars, from Corse Clienti, designed to develop new technology for future road cars. The XX programme was first launched in 2005 with the FXX, followed by the 599XX in 2010 and the FXX K in 2015 – with all three cars making their first appearance at the Festival of Speed, putting on a great show for the crowds. The XX cars were followed up the notoriously tricky hillclimb by the LaFerrari, F12berlinetta, 488 GTB and the California T, completing the “full set” of Ferrari sports cars at this year’s event. In fact, Ferrari’s presence in the Supercar Run paddock created an incredible buzz throughout the weekend, with a total of 96 cylinders and over 6,000CV entertaing the crowds in the Supercar Paddock.

Flavio Manzoni, Ferrari’s Head of Centre Stile, also participated as a Judge in the Style et Luxe Concours, which included several outstanding examples from Ferrari’s heritage, such as a beautiful Ferrari 212 Inter, entered by Fritz Kroymans, and a Ferrari 330 GT Vignale Shooting Brake which was entered by renowned Ferrari enthusiast, musician Jay Kay, leader of Jamiroquai. The winner of the Coach and Horses class was the outstanding 1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast, which also was a strong contender for overall winner.

Gené demonstrates F10 F1 car

Goodwood, 28 June – Former Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver, René Arnoux, was reunited with the Prancing Horse at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend with a fantastic drive of the 599XX, one of several cars from the XX Programmes that Ferrari brought from Maranello to support the event. Arnoux drove for the famed Italian brand  from 1983 to the first race of  1985 season, with  three race wins and  four pole positions in his first season, helping Ferrari lift the Manufacturer’s World Championship for the 8th time.

The 599XX is part of Ferrari’s Corse Clienti XX Programmes which is an experimental laboratory for the company to develop and test new technology and innovations in partnership with the  most loyal and passionate clients. The 599XX is not homologated for road use and has not been designed to comply with any race regulations, allowing the engineers free reign to create a number of innovative solutions, such as the Base Bleed aerodynamics which are designed to reduce drag at the rear of the car. This developmental work can also be seen on the company’s latest mid-engined supercar, the 488 GTB which features a similar aerodynamic solution with air being channelled through the rear flanks of the car to reduce drag and increase downforce.

Ferrari also brought the 2010 F1 car to Goodwood, the F10, which is being driven this weekend by Scuderia Ferrari test driver, Marc Gené, who also spent time with the fans in the paddocks. Ferrari’s extensive display of cars at the event also included a Tailor Made FF, as well as the complete range of current products, including the California T which also competed in the challenging hillclimb.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed concludes today and Ferrari will once again be one of the main attractions at the Event.

Corinna and Manuela Gostner: The racing sisters

Source: Ferrari

Maranello, 22 June – Pretty, likeable… and as fast at they come. Simplifying a great deal, this is the portrait of Corinna and Manuela Gostner, the two women drivers who enrich the field of the Ferrari Challenge Europe Coppa Shell. Active athletes since ever (one is an excellent volleyball player, the other has played handball at the top level) Corinna and Manuela discovered the Ferrari Challenge last year in Brno, when they took part in their first time.

The family. The Gostners make up a real team that includes two other members: their father Thomas, also a racer in Coppa Shell, and brother David, who is among the top driver in the Trofeo Pirelli. Again in Budapest, during the third round of the Ferrari Challenge Europe, all four of them will be on the track, engaged in breathtaking challenges and thrilling overtakes at the wheel of their Ferrari 458 Challenge EVO.

Likeability. As they are the most likeable and sunny persons in the entire paddock, we engaged Corinna and Manuela in in a double interview during which they provided rapid-fire answers on a variety of topics, such as the pleasure of competing, doing so with the world’s best-known one-make series, leading them to a virtual role exchange. Here they are, as they star in this entertaining video. However, make no mistake: Corinna and Manuela shine with their charm, but, once on the track, they are not there to amuse anyone…
