Silverstone, 14th June 2013. For the fourth year running, Ferrari North Europe has joined forces with the world famous Silverstone Circuit and the British Racing Drivers’ Club to give a group of the nation’s most deserving young people a very special day out.

This morning 50 youngsters each experienced the thrill of being driven around Silverstone in a Ferrari California. At the wheel were BRDC “Rising Stars” alongside celebrity drivers such as Pink Floyd drummer – and Ferrari enthusiast – Nick Mason.

The children were all nominated by Variety the Children’s Charity, which ensures that sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people benefit from positive childhood experiences, and BEN, the automotive industry’s benevolent fund which provides care, financial help, emotional support and advice for those who work or have worked in the automotive industry.

The event was hosted by the brilliant Mike Brewer, who currently presents Wheeler Dealers on Discovery Channel.

Aged from four to 19, the children had travelled from all over the UK to attend. Some were battling illness whilst others had suffered personal trauma. Also in attendance were pupils from special schools that deal with a variety of emotional and behavioural difficulties and physical disabilities. All were able to put their problems aside and enjoy an unforgettable morning.

Whilst each child took part in a thrilling 15-minute passenger ride, their families were given unique access to the exclusive BRDC Clubhouse where they were treated to a non-stop programme of entertainment provided by sponsors such as PlayStation and Sublime Science.

As they departed each child was presented with the ultimate souvenir, a USB stick featuring footage from their own personal ride, captured by an on-board camera.

Matteo Torre, Ferrari North Europe’s Regional Manager, commented: “Now in its fourth year, the Ferrari California Experience has become the cornerstone of FNE’s CSR activity in the UK. Once again a great time was had by all, not just by the children but by our event sponsors who, as usual, were so generous with their time, expertise and resources. We look forward to brightening the lives of more exceptional young people for many years to come.”
