Antonio Giovinazzi reunited with the Ferrari F1 car in Montmelò

Montmelò, 16 May –Driving a Ferrari is always something special and to do so at an official F1 test makes it even more so. And Antonio Giovinazzi, despite feeling a bit under the weather, made the most of it, covering 148 laps of the Catalan track, the quickest being a 1’16”972, set on the Hypersoft tyres.

“It was a tiring day,” commented Antonio. “We did a lot of laps, but I really enjoyed it. Apart from yesterday, driving the Alfa Sauber, I hadn’t driven in an official test session since last year in Abu Dhabi. We had an interesting programme to work on, with various things to test and different tyre compounds to try. The test was productive and delivered a really big amount of data to correlate with that from the simulator. To be at the wheel of a Ferrari is always a privilege and it was a fantastic feeling.

The first in-season test session has thus ended. There will be two more days, the 31stJuly and 1stAugust, at the Hungaroring, after the Hungarian GP.

Two GP distances, best time on old-type Softs

Montmelò, 15 May –136 laps, over two Grands Prix lengths: that’s the distance racked up by Scuderia Ferrari on the first of two days of this in-season test, with Sebastian Vettel at the wheel. Various developments were tried out on the SF71H, “but not aimed at Monaco” clarified the driver, “because that race is too much of a one-off. Let’s say we got some ideas and now we have to turn them into reality.” Seb’s best time of 1’17”659 was set in the afternoon on Soft compound tyres, of the type used at the start of the season and not in last weekend’s GP. “We learned various things on how to work on track like this one . We know we have a strong car,” concluded the driver before leaving the circuit. Tomorrow, Antonio Giovinazzi takes over at the wheel of the SF71H
