Goodwood, 30th June 2014 – Once again, another Festival of Speed has come to an end. Ferrari fans will have numerous memoirs on which to reflect before next year’s event kicks off. Many stunning Ferraris, both classic and modern, were on display this year, turning a lot of fascinated heads. The Prancing Horse’s enthusiasts were excited to see so many of the current range cars, not least witnessing the UK debut of both the California T and the 458 Speciale. Not one, but two fantastic LaFerrari’s were on display for the first time in the UK, together with a very special one-off car from the company’s Special Projects division. The spectacular California T made its first UK appearance at the Festival of Speed this weekend. Spectators crammed into the Michelin Supercar paddock to catch a glimpse of the first Ferrari since the iconic Ferrari F40 to be powered by a Turbo engine. Also being unveiled was the 458 Speciale, Ferrari’s new mid-engined V8 extreme sports car that was recently awarded the title of Best Performance Engine of 2014 and Best Engine Above 4.0 Litres by Engine Technology International magazine. The 458 Speciale was seen making a blistering run up the famous Hillclimb, with a very special driver at the wheel: ‘Atty’ Lennox, Lord March’s daughter, who was left astounded by the capabilities of the car.

Another amazing Ferrari making its UK debut at Goodwood was LaFerrari, Ferrari’s new hybrid supercar which boast an incredible 6.3-litre V12 engine with 800 CV and a unique hybrid system that offers the driver an additional 163 CV at all times. LaFerrari is the latest limited series car from the Prancing Horse with only 499 examples being made and it promises to be the most iconic Ferrari of the modern era. Of the two LaFerraris at Goodwood this year, one of them is owned by Jay Kay, lead singer of Jamiroquai. Ferrari Fans were also treated to the sight of a truly unique one-off car, produced by Ferrari’s Special Projects division; the F12 TRS, which also participated in the dynamic demonstrations taking place on the fabled Goodwood Hill Climb. Based on the F12berlinetta, the One-Off car was developed at a client’s request as an extreme, two-seater, open-top sports barchetta. One of the initial inspirations for the project was the 1957 250 Testa Rossa; in fact, the F12 TRS is Flavio Manzoni and the Ferrari Style Centre team’s modern, innovative take on that legendary car’s spirit and pays homage to it in its moniker.

Ferrari was represented by Scuderia Ferrari at Goodwood, with Kimi Raikonnen, Ferrari’s official F1 driver, joining John Surtees in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of his F1 Championship title. Kimi and John respectively drove their Championship-winning cars – Räikkönen his F2007 and Surtees a 1964 158 F1. Pedro de la Rosa, Ferrari’s official F1 test driver, also attended, giving fans a demonstration of the 2009 F60 Formula 1 car: a very special occasion to relive the Italian company’s great history in Grand Prix motorsport. Throughout the weekend Pedro was also seen mixing with the crowd and signing autographs for the many Prancing Horse fans who flock to this truly great event every year.

Goodwood, 29 June –Today at Goodwood Festival of Speed was one to remember with Scuderia Ferrari and Shell very much centre stage. During the first two days of the event, the Maranello marque was represented by test driver Pedro de la Rosa at the wheel of the 2010 F10, while today, it fielded two world champions at pretty much the same time.

In the early afternoon, 1964 World Champion John Surtees settled into the Formula 1 car he drove 50 years ago to win the world title. Current Scuderia Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen then got in the car that took him to the championship crown, after which, starting a minute apart they set off for a demonstration run up the famous Goodwood hill.

Before and after their run Raikkonen and Surtees chatted about the huge crowd that had turned up for the festival and also discussed the differences and similarities of their respective cars, the 1964 158 and the 2007 F2007. They both shared having Shell as a partner supplying fuel and lubricants, a fundamental asset for Scuderia Ferrari for most of its Formula 1 history. This was Kimi’s first time at the Festival of Speed. “I think this is an incredible event, with thousands of very knowledgeable spectators turning up. Only in England is there such a passion for motorsport and it’s the only place that could organise something like this.” John Surtees, Shell’s guest of honour at the Festival of Speed, in recognition of the fiftieth anniversary of his world title on four wheels, echoed the Finn’s sentiments. “Meetings such as these are the lifeblood of motor sport as much as the races. It was exciting to sit once again in my 1964 car and go up the Goodwood hill through two rows of crowds. This day will stay etched on my memory for a very long time.”

The second day of the Goodwood Festival of Speed saw Scuderia Ferrari’s official test-driver, Pedro de la Rosa, mixing with the crowd and signing autographs for the many Prancing Horse fans who flock to this great event every year. An array of spectacular classic Ferraris tackled the Hillclimb, one of which Pedro was particularly intrigued with: a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB. The owner of the car was honoured to share the history of his historic Endurance Racer with the F1 driver, who clearly appreciates the importance that such iconic cars have had in creating the Ferrari myth that it is today.

Ferrari was honoured to offer Atty Lennox, Lord March’s daughter, the chance to experience driving up her father’s very famous driveway in a 458 Speciale, which made its UK debut here at the event. She was truly impressed by Ferrari’s latest mid-engined supercar, saying: “It’s an incredibly powerful car, yet so beautiful and smooth: it totally blew my mind.” On Goodwood, she commented: “It has a different vibe every year with the different cars that come, but it’s the same familiar faces that are the motorsport family of Goodwood. It’s a really magical place.”

The Goodwood Festival of Speed continues with Kimi Räikkönen making an appearance as a special guest at the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of John Surtees’ F1 World title. The two drivers will be at the wheels of the cars in which they won their World Championships: Surtees will be driving the 1964 158 F1 and Kimi his F2007.

Goodwood, 28 June – Today was the second day of the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Ferraris and their drivers from today and yesteryear got a rousing reception from the crowd. Today, Pedro de la Rosa repeated his Friday performance, firing the 2010 Ferrari F10 Formula 1 car up the famous Goodwood hill. The Spaniard did two runs, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, which proved to be hugely popular with the enthusiastic and knowledgeable fans. This was Pedro’s first visit to the Festival of Speed and he was impressed by the atmosphere. “There’s an incredible number of people here, but the crazy thing is they are all so knowledgeable which means it’s great to talk to them,” said the Spaniard. “Personally I had a lot of fun driving here and I also had the honour of going up the hill just a few minutes after one of my heroes, Emerson Fittipaldi (in his 1974 McLaren.) On top of that, I was also able to chat with another motorsport legend, John Surtees.”

Indeed, the English former Scuderia Ferrari driver was the star of the show. Tomorrow is the big day for the 1964 World Champion from Surrey, when he will tackle the Goodwood hillclimb at the wheel of the Ferrari 158 he drove to that world championship crown in 1964. Driving alongside him on the hill, in a stirring parallel between two world champions, will be Scuderia Ferrari’s current driver Kimi Raikkonen, at the wheel of the F2007 which took him to the title in 2007.

This fantastic blend of history and passion is part of an event organised by Shell, the longterm partner of Scuderia Ferrari, that is sponsoring the event and whose logos were visible on the Prancing Horse cars in both the years represented on the track. The partnership between Scuderia Ferrari and Shell is one of the longest running in Formula 1, as well being one of the most successful. Apart from the Formula 1 cars, Ferrari’s road cars are also here and drawing big crowds. Among those attracting the most attention are the F12 TRS and the two LaFerrari, one of which belongs to enthusiastic Ferrari collector, Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay.

Yesterday, on the opening day of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ferrari unveiled its new, spectacular, California T which brims with a host of new solutions, not least of which is its 8-cylinder turbo engine. Maranello’s engineers have created an entirely new power unit which delivers absolutely superb levels of performance, blistering pick-up and the most exhilarating soundtrack any turbo has ever yielded. The California T retains its predecessor’s versatility, with a folding hardtop, 2+2 seating and up to 320 litres of luggage space, making it one of the most practical Ferrari cars which appeals to a wider audience than ever before.

Fans of Ferrari’s  traditional mid-engined V8 extreme sports cars were also treated to a sonic feast with the 458 Speciale also making its official UK debut at Goodwood, giving an exhilarating  demonstration of its capabilities to the spectators. The 458 Speciale is powered by a naturally-aspirated V8 engine that delivers 605 CV, and that was awarded the title of Best Performance Engine of 2014 and Best Engine Above 4.0 Litres by Engine Technology International magazine.

Another amazing Ferrari making its UK debut at Goodwood was LaFerrari, Ferrari’s new hybrid supercar which boast an incredible 6.3-litre V12 engine with 800 CV and an unique hybrid system that offers the driver an additional 163 CV at all times.

An even more unique Ferrari, produced by Ferrari’s Special Projects division, is the F12 TRS which also participated in the dynamic demonstrations taking place on the fabled Goodwood Hill Climb. Another highlight for Scuderia Ferrari fans was Ferrari test driver Pedro de la Rosa’s demonstration of the 2009 F60 Formula 1 car, a very special occasion to relive the Italian company’s great history in Grand Prix motorsport. Pedro will be attending all three days of the Goodwood Festival of Speed and is very excited to interact with the fans at such an iconic event. He will be joined by current Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver, Kimi Raikkonen on Sunday, when Kimi drives his championship-winning 2007 F1 car in a special celebration to commemorate another great Ferrari F1 World Champion, John Surtees, who won the F1 Driver’s title in 1964 in a Ferrari 158.

Strong Ferrari and Shell presence at the Festival of Speed

Goodwood, 26 June – This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed gets underway tomorrow, one of the most important gatherings in the world of racing and sports cars of every time. This year, the main theme of the event held in Sussex, England, is the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of John Surtees taking the Formula 1 World Championship crown. To this day, Surtees is the only driver to have been world champion on two wheels (in 1956, ’58, ’59 and ’60) and four, in 1964.

A lot of current drivers are taking part, including, from the world of Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton, former Ferrari man Felipe Massa and current Scuderia Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen. In fact, the Finn will share centre stage at the key moment of the weekend, as he will tackle the Goodwood hill at the wheel of the Ferrari F2007, which he drove to the world championship title, while alongside him will be Surtees himself, driving the Ferrari 158 F1 with which he took the title 50 years ago. It was one of the closest championship battles, as he only took the win in the very last race, the thrilling Mexican Grand Prix, when he beat off two quality drivers in the shape of Graham Hill and Jim Clark.

The two cars are very different of course, but surprisingly they have several points in common. First of, they are both Ferraris, both winners and, at the time they were both revolutionary, while last but not least, they were supported by the same partner, Shell, the petroleum company that has always used Formula 1 to develop its excellent products and which has supported Ferrari for so many years in Formula 1.
The run up the hill for these cars takes place on Sunday, but be warned, tickets for Saturday and Sunday sold out ages ago, although there are a few left for Friday, which are expected to go fast. Tomorrow and Saturday, Scuderia Ferrari will once again be centre stage, when its test driver Pedro de la Rosa will tackle the hill in a 2009 F60.
