Designer Marc Newson visits Maranello

Maranello, April 22 – After a busy week at Milan’s Salone del Mobile, designer Marc Newson took some time out of his schedule to visit Ferrari headquarters in Maranello.
Hosted by Piero Ferrari, Newson enjoyed a comprehensive visit to the factory, its assembly lines, the “Classiche” classic car atelier, Fiorano Circuit, and the recently completed Scuderia Ferrari wing.
One of today’s most influential designers, Newson has collaborated with an impressive list of international brands including Apple, Riva and Pentax. He is a passionate Ferrari collector with a particular penchant for the classics. The 857S , 750 Monza, 166 Barchetta are among his preferred models, but “every year there is a design that is practically to die for” he added. Of the current range, he cited the FF as his favorite car. While Newson had been to Maranello previously, this was his first in-depth tour.
He observed: “You have everything here. It’s like a small world. You have a strong sense of the human aspect of the company. The people are really important to the way Ferrari operates. It’s an incredibly technological and modern product but it has the quality of something that is hand made. It’s a pleasure to come here”.
