Ferrari celebrates Goodwood Festival of Speed’s 20th Anniversary

Maranello, July 14 – Although the excitement of the 20th Anniversary of the Goodwood Festival of Speed is over for another year, Ferrari fans will have many memories on which to reflect until next year’s event. Ferrari was represented by a diverse array of classic and modern road and race cars from the Prancing Horse’s illustrious past, including two historically significant cars from its 250 series, a 2010 F10 Formula 1 car and its newest V12 flagship model, the F12berlinetta, as well as a very special one-off car from the company’s Special Projects division.

Scuderia Ferrari test driver Marc Gené’s demonstrations of the team’s 2010 F10 Formula 1 car was a special occasion, emphasising the Italian company’s great history in grand prix motorsport. Gené was driving F10 chassis no.285, formerly driven by Fernando Alonso who took four victories with the car in 2010. Marc Gené has represented Ferrari at Goodwood for several years, and always lists it as one of his favourite events in the calendar.

Another highlight for Ferrari was Marc Gené’s drive of  Eric Clapton’s one-off SP12 EC which made its Goodwood debut as a private entry, at the invitation of Lord March. The SP12 EC’s unique styling was inspired by a memorable Ferrari from a previous era, the iconic flat-engined V12 512BB. Clapton’s fondness for the Berlinetta Boxer – of which he owned three examples – can be clearly seen in his bespoke SP12 EC from Ferrari’s Special Projects division which commits to only ever produce one example of the client’s design.

The F12berlinetta also made its first UK appearance at the Festival of Speed this weekend.  Spectators crammed into the Michelin Supercar paddock to catch a glimpse of the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever.  Flanking the 740hp F12berlinetta were a ‘Tailor-Made’ Ice White Pearl 458 Spider and a FF showcasing the model’s new glass panoramic roof option.  The Tailor Made programme allows clients to create a car of their dreams, with personal design touches and clever detailing to make their car unique, designed in partnership with Ferrari’s own design team.

Ferrari were also well-represented at the Cartier Style ex Luxe lawn with two particular GT cars standing out. The first was a 1955 Ferrari 250 GT Speciale originally commissioned by actress Ingrid Bergman, who was known as one of Ferrari’s best clients in the 1950s.  The 250 GT is finished in her own personal paint color called Grigio Ingrid but sadly, Bergman never actually took delivery of the car.

Next to the GT Speciale was a 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa Pinin Farina in a striking color combination, finished in Bordeaux with a contrasting Bianco roof and sills.  The car was personally commissioned by a friend of Battista Pininfarina, founder of the Carrozzeria Pininfarina coachbuilding company, one of Ferrari’s longest-standing design partners.

On Friday, Bonhams offered John Lennon’s 1965 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Berlinetta for auction, a car that was originally purchased by Lennon in February 1965, the month that he passed his driving test and The Beatles recorded ‘Ticket to Ride.’  The beautiful 330GT, wearing its original number plate, achieved a remarkable £359,000 – approximately double the pre-sale estimate, demonstrating once again the incredible investment potential of a classic Ferrari with “celebrity ownership”.

Although the thrills and excitement of Goodwood are over for another year, fans can see a compilation of the Ferrari action on the Ferrari.com website, with a dynamic video and a gallery of images.

Goodwood 14 July – Today will be the final chance for spectators at the Goodwood Festival of Speed to take in two unique sights featuring Ferrari: a demonstration of the Scuderia Ferrari team’s 2010 Formula 1 car by Ferrari test driver Marc Gené and Eric Clapton’s one-off SP12 EC.

The Scuderia Ferrari F10 Formula 1 car being demonstrated throughout the weekend by Gené is special as it is a multiple grand prix winner. Chassis no.285, previously driven by Fernando Alonso took victories at Germany, Italy, Korea and Singapore during the 2010 season.

Sunday will be the last day Ferrari fans can get a detailed look at the 12th vehicle produced by Ferrari’s ‘Special-Projects’ division, the SP12 EC. If the SP12EC appears to resemble another memorable Ferrari, namely the 512BB, it is no coincidence. The famous musician wished to pay tribute to the V12 flat-engined Ferrari, of which he has owned three examples.

Beautiful weather has helped this year’s festival sellout, and appropriately Ferrari have brought an Ice White Pearl ‘Tailor-Made’ 458 Spider which has been taking full advantage of the perfect conditions as part of the Michelin Supercar Run. Joining the 458 Spider are a F12berlinetta, which is making its Goodwood debut this year and a FF featuring a special ‘Grigio FF’ exterior and a beautiful navy blue semi-aniline leather interior.

A complete timetable for the Formula 1 demonstrations and the Michelin Supercar Run on Sunday are below:

Sunday 14th
– 1st F1 @ 10:55
– 1st Michelin Supercar Run @ 12:25
– 2nd F1 @ 15:10

Scuderia Ferrari driver Marc Gené demonstrated two very special Ferraris yesterday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed: a 2010 Scuderia Ferrari F10 Formula 1 car and Eric Clapton’s SP12 EC, a custom creation made by Ferrari’s ‘Special-Projects’ division.

The F10, chassis no.285, was previously driven by Fernando Alonso and scored four grand prix victories in 2010: Germany, Italy, Korea and Singapore. It is participating in the Contemporary Grand Prix Cars class.

Gené also drove the SP12 EC, styled after the 512BB, in the Michelin Supercar Run. Clapton’s decision to pay homage to the Berlinetta Boxer can be traced back to his intimate relationship with the V12 flat-engined Ferrari, of which he has owned three examples.

Also participating in the Michelin Supercar Run are a Rosso Berlinetta F12berlinetta, an Ice White Pearl ‘Tailor-Made’ 458 Spider and a FF sporting a special ‘Grigio FF’ exterior and a beautiful navy blue semi-aniline leather interior.

Of note yesterday was the sale of John Lennon’s 1965 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Berlinetta at the Bonhams auction for £359,000 inc. premium. The now classic Ferrari was originally purchased by Lennon in February 1965, the month that he passed his driving test and The Beatles recorded ‘Ticket to Ride.’

Ferrari at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Maranello, 5 July 2013. Ferrari is proud to announce the Goodwood debut of the F12berlinetta at this year’s Festival of Speed.  In addition, a selection of vehicles representing the various levels of personalisation available from Ferrari will be demonstrated including a bespoke FF, a “Tailor-Made” 458 Spider and Eric Clapton’s SP12 EC, produced by Ferrari’s “Special Projects” division. The F12berlinetta is the newest generation in Ferrari’s great lineage of 12-cylinder sports cars.  Aerodynamic efficiency was a top priority in the styling and development of the F12berlinetta, which features increased downforce and reduced drag figures.  The Aero Bridge and Active Brake Cooling system are two new innovative aerodynamic solutions Ferrari have incorporated into the vehicle’s design, while still managing to maintain the elegant proportions typical of Ferrari’s front-engined V12 cars. Its 6,266cc direct-injected V12 produces a maximum output of 740hp and recently won the title of ‘Best Performance Engine’ in the International Engine of the Year Awards.  While the F12berlinetta the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever produced, it delivers fuel consumption and emissions levels that are 30 per cent lower than that of the previous generation.  Mated to Ferrari’s 7-speed dual-clutch F1 transmission, 0-62.5mph is reached in just 3.1 seconds and a top speed of over 211mph is possible.Ferrari’s V12 four-seater GT, the FF, will also appear at Goodwood this year showcasing a new option: a panoramic glass roof.  This is made from low emissions glass and thus holds cabin temperature steady both in summer and winter, for optimal climate control. The glass is tinted for privacy but still gives the occupants the feeling that they are travelling with the top down.  The FF features a Grigio FF exterior, which is complemented by a navy blue semi-aniline leather interior.

The 458 Spider demonstrates the wide variety of options that are available through Ferrari’s Tailor-Made programme.  This particular 458 Spider is finished in Ice White Pearl and is accented by Grigio Silverstone racing stripes running down the centre of the bonnet, roof, tonneau cover and engine cover.  The interior is upholstered in a combination of black and grey leather; the latter covering surfaces on the door panels, rear luggage bench, centre tunnel and the extremities of the racing seats.  Grey alcantara is used for the central part of the seats while a silver cordura stripe adds a highlight to the profile.  Unifying the theme between the interior and exterior is pin stripe detailing on the inner carbon-fibre trims in Ice White Pearl.

Representing the ultimate level of exclusivity available through Ferrari’s One-Off  Programme will be Eric Clapton’s SP12 EC.  Designed by Centro Stile Ferrari in collaboration with Pininfarina and the engineers from Maranello, the SP12 EC’s styling is influenced heavily by the 512 BB.  Clapton’s decision to homage to the Berlinetta Boxer can be traced back to his intimate relationship with the V12 flat-engined Ferrari, of which he has owned three examples.  The musician claims the process of designing his dream Ferrari was ‘one of the most satisfying things [he’s] ever done.’

Ferrari will also be represented by the Scuderia Ferrari team who will be demonstrating their 2010 Formula 1 car throughout the weekend, driven by Scuderia Ferrari driver, Marc Gene.  The F10 chassis, no.285, was piloted by Fernando Alonso to four victories in 2010, including an Italian Grand Prix victory at Monza.
